Activity 4: Foreshortening Purpose: To explore extreme two-dimensional depictions of three-dimensional realities through exaggerated perspective. Materials: Drawing materials and paper, or the medium of your choice. Method: Whereas normal perspective is conventional and expected, exaggerated perspective, or foreshortening, can introduce new meanings and a greater sense of drama. Arrange a group of objects, one of which has greater length and projection toward the observer. Magnify the length of this object so that it seems to reach the limit of, or beyond, the format. The other objects will occupy their normal spatial positions. Any medium may be used but you may wish to make preliminary studies in graphite. (Fig. 8.4A)
